You're listening to the Radcast, a top 25 worldwide business podcast. If it's radical, we cover it.

00:13
Here's your host, Ryan Alford. Hey guys, what's up? Welcome to the latest edition of the Radcast. It's Friday, September 29th. Your last podcast of September of the Radcast, that is. Our weekly marketing and business news edition joined by my friend and business partner and all around good guy, Chris Hansen. What's up, Chris?

00:42
Thank you, sir. Pleasure is always happy to be here. Yes. Is it hot in Miami today or is it just nice, Miami today? It's a little hot. It's been raining a lot the last 24 hours, so it's a little sticky out, but we've had a little bit of a breeze. It's come. It's. Fall is here, boy. We're getting there. There we go. Slowly. Actually, not quite the fall you're having in Greenville, I'm sure.

01:08
It's actually eighties. So we have really entered fall territory yet either. It's pretty nice today, it's in the seventies, but it's been eighties for the most part. And I will be in Miami a week from today. We'll both be shooting there. The news edition from the Vacay Lounge, also known as your place in Miami. I love that, Dali. It does seem like the Vacay Lounge. Dali, let's go.

01:36
Yes. It might as well be at this point. I know, exactly. It's always a vacay in Chris's place. Always on vacay. Always up here trying. Yes. That's the goal. One of our top headlines, I'm gonna go right at, actually I'm gonna go out of order here, of our sheet. Have you been following the Travis, Kelsey, and Swifty relationship? Have you been seeing anything with that?

02:03
I saw a meme about it this morning, but I don't want to disclose the topic because it could get us banned. It had to do with health care stuff. Oh, interesting. Okay. So Travis Kelsey, who's the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, has been starting a little romance with old Swifty and there's- Dangerous. We talked a little bit about this last week, but conspiracy theories abound. She just-

02:31
Swifty just happens to be releasing serial data to serial data. She just happens to be releasing one of her albums. They got quote unquote stolen from her. She's re releasing it and it's next month. And so everyone's there's conspiracy theory and sayings that she happens to start this dating when ever she has an album coming out, that it's all a ruse.

02:59
No romance. It's the old Hollywood playbook, boy. It is. Hey, borrowed interest. Hey, it's stirred up. This is why I tell everybody, this is supposed to be a marketing and business podcast. Dude, this is the biggest, this is creeper. This is gangster marketing. This is deeper, bro. This is, yeah. Gangster marketing. Like, this is real shit. This is dirty marketing. This is Taylor going, okay, I'm gonna build, everyone wants to know what I'm doing, who I'm dating, what drugs I'm on, whatever. And what better thing?

03:28
Then started dating romance right before your album comes out to get your name all over the place And guess what travis kelsey just saw his jersey sales skyrocket Which is wild because Who's buying them are guys like oh hell. Yeah, bro You're doing Taylor swift. I need to go get one of his jerseys or is it like swifties like chicks the taylor swift groupies they're all buying that shit because

03:58
then they can maybe wear them to the concert and Taylor will call them out. Oh, I see. If she loves him, then we love him. Exactly. That's how it works with Taylor. You already know she's got a breakup track. They'll probably break up like a month after the release. She's writing it right now. Yeah. She's got a, hey bro, she has a model. It works for her. You know what the new song is called?

04:28
loose ends. It wasn't a tight end. It was a loose end. She had to close it. I hope she's not bringing those loose ends into the new relationship because that's toxic. That is toxic. But I mean, we'll see. Maybe they end up married with babies and everything else. But I'm saying bullshit.

04:51
I was gonna say is there like a betting betting line on her love life's like that's some gambling. I could probably be good at Yeah guaranteed to break up guaranteed because even for the creativity she needs it she needs that emotion to like Fuel her songwriting. Yes, she's being fueled and For anyone listening, this is hey, you've got a big launch coming out How can you tie yourself to something of interest? Obviously this is like

05:20
level 12 stuff but Taylor just happens to be one of those popular figures in the world and Travis Kelsey is well-known football player But that they're tying themselves to one another and the high tide raises all ships. So There you have it marketing ploy with a launch coming out done by miss Swifty Wonder she likes being called a Swifty or I know she's not a Swifty. It's

05:49
the people that follow her are Swifties. I'm sure she does. I think it'd be pretty cool. I'm a Hanson-y. That's what you want. With a special name just for you? Yeah, Hanson's. Yeah, the Hanson-ies. Yeah. But there was a Hanson, remember that group, the boy band? Oh yeah, dude. Mbop. Oh yeah.

06:14
My name has been spelled wrong for years because of those guys. Cause they spelled it with an O N instead of an E N dude. No lie. My parents, this is old school, right? Like the house phone and the answering machine. We used to have that song playing in the background on the answering machine. Like, thanks for calling the Hansons. This was my idea when I was in like fourth grade. My thing, my mom let me do it for the week and then she put it back to the default answering machine.

06:44
Bob. If Joel's listening, and he should be because he'll be editing this, he needs to have some Bob playing right now. So we'll have that edit for everyone listening. In bigger news, or not bigger, probably maybe less exciting news, but bigger news for everyone because we all buy shit on Amazon. The US, they're shooing everyone now, but sues Amazon in a monopoly case that could be existential for the retail giant.

07:14
It comes to us from NPR. In the sweeping antitrust lawsuit, the Federal Trade Commission, that's the FTC for you and me, brother, and a bipartisan group of state attorneys, General, they paint Amazon as a monopolist. Hey, monopolist. I like that. That suffocates competitors and raises costs for both sellers and shoppers.

07:41
They're arguing that Amazon is punishing sellers for offering lower prices elsewhere on the internet and pressuring them into paying for Amazon's delivery network. Let me just tell you, this is true. I have media clients that sell on Amazon and they do these things. But you know what? They've built a certain amount of scale and availability to buyers because of how easy they've made it on the shopping platform. So I don't know. This will be interesting. What says you?

08:12
I'm interested to see how it plays out. I just. My whole thing is I find it very hard to believe like when these things happen, I don't ever see real resolution. Yeah, I feel like it's and it says there was a eight hundred million dollar settlement that happens. That's like a blip on the screen for Amazon. And then it all goes away. Exactly. That's how I feel, because Amazon, it's almost they're too big. Like they're intertwined with the government.

08:41
Yeah, to some degree. So. I just think face. We talked about this a couple weeks ago, like all these. For 15 years, Facebook, Google and Amazon have been amassing these empires. And right. And now we're going to go wait a second. This is not OK. That was the first thing that pops in my head was all the congressional hearings with Facebook and security concerns. And I see a lot of talk, but.

09:08
Nothing gets done. Nothing changes. And look, Amazon's invested the infrastructure and created a place where people buy stuff. They came out with these conveniences that are now commonplace. It's changed how the world operates and how people shop. When you hate the player or hate the game. Hey, Bezos, I don't know. Somebody told me that I don't remember. Was that Diddy or was that somebody else? Don't hate the player.

09:38
I may be misattributing the rapper that said it, but nonetheless you get it. And I see both sides of this because we've had...

09:48
clients that have gotten it's funny they complain because they're selling like 10 million in product down Amazon and then now they're complaining because They realize how much money they're paying Amazon and there are some predatory practices But but they're also padding their pockets pretty well because their margins are good So be careful what you wish for Yeah, it's like you could have a whole big chunk of nothing. Yeah, Amazon exactly

10:16
So we'll see where this goes. I think a big settlement's coming and swept under the rug. But just don't mess with my Prime shop. That's what it is, I think we all go, yeah, I agree, we should not have these monopolies. But then they're like, they go home and they're ordering. If I don't get that shake tomorrow, I'm gonna be pissed. I'm going on Amazon. And if I don't have my batteries and my deodorant tomorrow, I'll be fine. I don't have my fricking Evian in two days.

10:46
It's dude, tell me about it. What kind of world are we living in where I'm ordering bar soap from Amazon and I'm like expecting in two days. It's just, I two days I'm expecting same day. I'll get my fish oil now. Like same day. You're in Miami. You should be getting some same day stuff. You got a bigger city than G Vegas. I there's definitely some same day. I actually have packages waiting for me to go get them right now.

11:12
Your coffee creamer and your. My K-pods, my heavy on. Yeah, and your butt powder, whatever else you got. Yeah, monkey butt. All right, in other news, Grubhub is expanding Snoop Dogg's starring effort on the tale of its international success. Grubhub has launched a multi-channel campaign featuring Snoop Dogg with giveaways and out of home creative in the US.

11:42
following its success in 19 markets worldwide. This comes to us from our favorite dive, marketingdive.com. Snoop Dogg's kinda everywhere. He's hitting my feed on Instagram quite a bit. It's always funny. He's posted, he posts, I assume it's his team. But he's got a good team. It's some funny shit. He's almost like on the rock level of international recognition, I would say. Cause I know my buddies in Europe,

12:12
freaking love they love 90s hip hop and they love that's it yeah Snoop Dogg would be the poster boy for that right him and Dr. Dre and that and weed that man is one of the most famous potheads on the planet i wonder if he do you think he's still token every day i read actually recently that he's cut down i think every day yes but i think not like all day

12:42
I don't know, man. Even if he is, I got to respect a dude been in the game that long. Yeah, and turned it into commercial success. Like every entertainment. Yeah, he's like on Kevin Hart level, Shaquille O'Neal. Exactly. It's not just, I would actually argue it's everything but the music now. Yeah. I know he's still putting on music because I did hear a couple of tracks recently. You know we're bad.

13:11
But I'd say I'm more entertained by him in the commercials and doing other things. I love the funny dude. The Corona spots are pretty fucking hilarious. Him sitting on the beach and just, he's playing judge and critique to the stale white guy who's funny himself. And he's never involved in any drama, weird stuff. I don't know anyone that

13:36
thinks negatively of him. They might not love him, but no, I think even my mom will be like, oh, Snoop Dogg. Right. Like he's like uncle Snoop. You know what I mean? You're like, oh, yeah. Oh, he's just uncle Snoop. Yeah. Oh, there's uncle Snoop again. He's just minimized it. I'm like, ah, it's okay if Snoop's cooking in the middle of the public, but anyone else, how dare you.

14:04
I'd be more concerned if I heard he stopped. I'd be like, what? Yeah. Why? Yeah. But Marketing Dive came to us and told us how Grubhub is continuing to use them. And for good measure, we'll see. I do think some of the delivery, I do think UberEats does a pretty good job with their spots. And a lot of the deliveries have stepped up their game. We'll be on the lookout. I want to see those outdoor boards, Snoopa Loop on how they're bringing to life.

14:32
food delivery. I go straight to like the munchies. That a munchies late night grub hub. Get all your munchies. Yeah. Like he's that type of spot for him would be pretty on brand. Yeah. But then it's the him and Martha Stewart have done some stuff. So he could go like fine dining out. That duo dude is awesome. Yeah. They're both together. They're awesome. Yes.

14:58
I think Snoop would be on my short list of spokesperson, like celebrity spokesperson, if I was doing a campaign, like trying to make, if I was gonna like fit him in, where it's like, oh, you gotta fit Snoop, all right, we can make it work, whatever it is. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Shoes, tobacco, furniture, insert product here, B2B, selling copiers, get Snoop. You could make it work.

15:25
Yes, I'm going to look in the industry with him for sure. Coming to us from the news, if you've ever heard of them, Spotify to use a eye to replicate podcasters voices and translate them to other languages. They better not be translating my voice without my permission. Spotify has announced a new AI powered feature that uses open AI's technology to translate podcasts into different languages with the goal.

15:54
of making it more accessible for creators and languages in the future. I mean, I guess it's a. So this is just the word that hits back to one of those. OK, fine. That's OK. But slippery slope. I've saw there's a podcast for Lex Friedman. I don't know if you're familiar with him. Pretty intellectual guy. And he posted a video yesterday with one of his episodes, the first one, they translated into Spanish, and I was like.

16:23
Which I could see, because I see people write like on Rogan's post, Hey, can we get this in a different language? Yeah, whatever. Any language. I know we've talked about it. Like I would love to have some vacay stuff in other languages. Just to. I wish they would just learn English. Is that that's.

16:44
Yeah, it's very American sounding. It is. But it's like, I always thought that, I don't know, even if it wasn't English, like Spanish, I always thought we'd like maybe as a one earth come to one language, like whether it's Spanish, French, whatever it is. But we have emojis now. They cross all barriers. They do. That is the love language of all is emojis.

17:11
Again, I don't care if it's English. I just thought we'd standardize around one You got to become a world and now I'm like one world order one money one language You know That's next It's called gonna be symbols and emojis. Yeah, it's called fit coin not Bitcoin Jesus fed coin fin coin fin coin. That's what it is, but Spotify this makes a lot of sense, but I just

17:41
I don't know. I feel like at some point, we're not far, and I know there's software that already does this, and somebody's gonna DM me, like, there's already stuff that does that, Ryan. I know, I'm aware. But like, you input text, and it's just, it's gonna be, like, we could just type up this entire show, and it become our voices in AI. But you know what? I don't think it could be as free-flowing and as...

18:07
scintillating is what just comes out of our mouths when we're in the middle of talking. I don't know that I could write up some of the shit we end up talking about. It might make it less or more interesting depending on who you are. Depends on the culture, how they interpret humor. I know. But man, those South Korean numbers for our downloads are way up. So I don't know. I think we're translating pretty well.

18:34
They either think they're either making fun of us, they're laughing with us or laughing at us. You never know. Here's the way you're getting the downloads. Exactly. We thank you for making us number one in marketing and business on Apple. 1.5 million downloads last month. Keep them coming. Don't hate the play, I hate the game. And to that end, we've never been able to take off on this platform. I've never really known why. I haven't tried, but Google Podcasts has always been our web.

19:00
1.5 million on Google will have 700 on Google. I'm like, I don't really understand other than we do direct a lot of people to Apple, but Google podcast is shutting down in 2024, clearly for not supporting the Radcast enough, but they're actually migrating to YouTube music. So Google podcast moving to YouTube music. I don't even know Google had podcasts, whatever that tells you. Yeah.

19:27
Google is transitioning its Google Podcast app to YouTube Music, offering users tools for migrating and giving Apple a unique position in music. Giving Apple a unique position in music and podcast streaming. Interesting. We have it on YouTube, and obviously we're on YouTube with video, but it does get into this audio video space of which one is it. YouTube.

19:53
Certainly a lot of people listening music on YouTube music. I know that and I can hear people saying that out loud. Yes but Their legacy of YouTube is video, right? You move all the podcasts over it gets a bit hairy confusing potential friction of knowing Exactly what you go there for You a big how many podcasts have you ever listened to on YouTube

20:22
I'm only going on if I want to watch. Yeah, exactly. If I want visual. I do put on like music mixes on YouTube. Yeah. In my house, not in the car. But if I'm in my house and I just want background noise, I'll put on YouTube. But no, if I'm going to listen to a podcast, like in the car, I'll go on iTunes or Spotify. I don't ever go to YouTube. Yeah. I'm purely on YouTube to watch stuff.

20:52
I've got YouTube TV. I watch that and I will say this. We are our podcast get watched. We're on film right now, which is why I'm proud to announce our newest sponsor. I'm holding in my hand if you're watching the episode and you see our lovely display of goods and hats and supports. But called our labs. It's the official skin cream of the Radcast and Ryan Allford. You're going to be seeing videos of this. Here's the thing.

21:21

And let me tell you, we promote things and I don't promote anything I don't stand behind. So I always promote VK. It's our product. We stand behind it. We third party lab test it. We love it. But here with Caldera Labs, I've been using it and even my wife has noticed. Less bags under the eyes, less wrinkles.

21:51
And I've, I don't know, my skins never look better. We'll see. But I just, I never really used it. Like I always use lotion. I'm a wash your face, use lotion kind of guy. Some moisturizer. But the eye cream is the best eye cream I've ever used. Called the Icon. Get it Chris, I'm actually holding my head. Marketing here, marketing icon, I love it. And then they have this stuff called the Good that's like this serum stuff.

22:21
At first it's, oh my God, I'm putting oil on my face. And then I'm like, oh my God, this feels really good. And then the next morning I wake up glowing, Chris. I didn't think there was such a thing. I always thought it was like, this is bullshit. People are like, oh my God, the glow. But I got the glow, baby. And I'm excited about this partnership. We're gonna have a coupon and discount code coming. And lots more to come. You're gonna see videos on my feed. You'll see some before and afters to know this is no bullshit.

22:50
